Curing Miradic Syndrome

By Kelvan the Odd, of the Bathyns

An etching of what seems two poorly written, tiny sentences, underline the word ‘Odd’. Upon scrutiny with a convex lens, roughly decipher into the phrase “I am not, you are."

Introduction

Miradic Syndrome, though no one can truly understand the disease I propose is similar to another syndrome known back in my homeland called ‘A Lost of Spirit’. Evidence of magic’s function and the biochemical electrical pathways in the body which allow us to tap into magic, suggests that Miradic Syndrome is caused by a neurodegenerative disorder.

While not a disease in actual fact, it is merely the body’s way of adapting to the continued use of powerful magic. Which constantly exposes the nervous system to either overload of bioneural activities, in which the body adapts to by desensitizing the nervous systems involved in spellcasting.

To explain it simply, the bioneural system is like a muscle. In order to get stronger, it must be exposed to stress repeatedly over it’s normal capacity, the body the adapts and fortifies it’s muscles then allowing it to move against more resistance .

However, taking the resistance as the spells being casted and the muscles as the nervous system. As the muscles get stronger, more strength is needed to move a little, even though no resistance is placed opposingly. Take these minute movements as the movements of your hands, eyes and various functions. Now, in order to move these parts the neural system requires a larger output in order to activate them. But our bodies are at last not meant to do so, limited by the number of nerves and many other biological functions from which we cannot change (I emphasize this not because it is an impossibility, but I do not want magicians who read this to attempt that. Especially since the cure does not require such, furthermore such a drastic change would serve no purpose other than a minute possibility of remedy. On the other hand, increased output of bioneural signals to a part of the body not meant for it would be more stressful on the spirit and the mental faculties of a person, further disabling them in futures to come.)

Hence, the result is inconsistent movement due to desensitizing.

The Cure

A forewarning to herbalists and healers, the procedures in this cure is radical and outmost attention must be paid to your patients at all times for a duration of six days to a week at least.

The herbs used are Battle Spice, Dwithon, a healing conjugant (I support the use of Sygaeur’s Cure-all lightly tempered with fresh Azure’s Blessing extract), Mallosh Smoke and 3 drops of Slumberweed oil (pure and potent).

First, an administration of Battle Spice, a single root (provided the patient has never consumed to tolerance, in which dosage must be increased appropriately) extract must be prepared. I found tinctures made from ground roots to be most effective, volume to be two spoonfuls at best.

At this time, the patient must be held down firmly but not uncomfortably. This is done to avoid dangers that might come from the stimulating properties of the tincture, to both physician and patient. The patient might become violent, frothing at the mouth is expected and not to be worried.

**Note, said patient will not be able to cast spells after imbibing Battle Spice.

Immediately following, pungent Mallosh smoke alongside Dwithon perfume is to be inhaled by the patient briefly to induce mild hallucinations within a short period of time. A mentalist should be on standby to discern when the patient is experiencing it, it should be noted that we only want to induce a faint effect and not vivid imagery.

At this point the patient should be overloading on nervous impulses, prolonged exposure to these effects could result in stroke and other ailments. Thus, we cease it with 3 drops of Slumberweed oil administered orally without dilution. The patient should (This cure is indeed still in it’s experimental stages.) calm down and enter an euphoric dream-like state, contrast to what he or she would have experienced earlier. Once this is achieved, there should be no delay in proceeding to the next step.

Introduce the tempered Sygaeur’s Cure-all to the patient in a single dose, then let the patient have his rest, introducing half a dosage of another tempered Cure-all, four hours later. Now allow the Slumberweed effect to wear off, during which the patient may exhibit murmurings and other sleep abnormalities, but these will fade quickly.

When the patient has recovered, both conciousness and health, a significant reduction of Miradic Syndrome Sympthoms would be observed such as restored motor-control functions and improved memory. However, several sessions may be required to treat advanced cases.

Hypothesized Explanation behind the Cure

The remedy works similar to the cause of the Syndrome, by Over Adaptation. Though functioning on the same principles, the remedy works inversely –causing the body to excessively recover from the stress that was purposely induced. Resulting in a lowered bioneural capactity, effectively re-sensitizing the nervous system.

Possible Side Effects and Notes

Performing the treatment beyond cure will inevitably result in a loss of magical abilities, hence it is crucial for the patient to know for themselves when and where to stop.

The treatment should be performed only once a week, any more frequent could result in Azure’s Blessing addiction and new ailments I have yet to uncover due to a lack of willing patients (I am sure you, the reader, can understand why.)

The procedure in itself should only be conducted by a professional who understands the concepts described in this manual, someone who can make changes readily to suit the different needs of each patient.

Most importantly, YOU are responsible for whom you treat. Remember who we are dealing with here, only people with exceptional magical capabilities develop the illness and the future consequences of who is cured lies in YOUR hands now.
